An implementation plan is an evolved content plan used when your are implementing a Web project on your own -- without using a vendor.
The plan is an evolved content plan that includes the following: scope, timeline, and budget for Web site implementation by your organization. A plan typically include the following:
- Overview
The project overview includes the purpose statement and target market information provided in the content plan. It also provides a condensed description of the project and its general scope.
- Scope
The scope provides a description your project, the tasks to be completed, the proposed technical approach for elements that are dynamic, and any limitation/process parameters that must be adhered to.
The content inventory and interaction inventory from the content plan should be integrated into the scope of the document.
- Timeline
Although the timeline for Internet media projects vary, based on the size of the site and the scope of the project, a 12 to 14 week timeline is common.
A typical timeline, design, production, and testing milestones. For example:
PLANNING
Week 1 Competitive sites/industry/Web stats analysis
Week 3 Define message strategy/site requirements/site map
DESIGN Week 4 Internal concepting/development of design options
Week 5 Review Design options
Week 6 Selection of design/illustrator/photographer
Week 8 Review roughs for illustrations
Week 10 Approve final illustrations
PRODUCTION
Weeks 6-7 Content to Web developer Week 9 Database design review/approval Weeks 6-11 Site implementation
TESTING Weeks 11-12 Beta installation/Proofing/Testing
Weeks 12-13 final review and approval Weeks 13-14 Final changes, proofing, and testing
DISTRIBUTION

Timelines often need to be adjusted to reflect the workload of staff, the selected vendor, and related project dependencies.
- Budget
While creating the implementation plan, staff will provide estimates for time, outside suppliers, and required resources for completing the project. These costs are then combined to create an overall budget to implement the project.
The time needed to implement Internet media only reflects a portion of the overall project cost. Project implementation is typically half of the budget. Costs associated with planning, design, and testing also need to be included for an accurate budget.
